Principle of gap corrosion monitoring: Once gap corrosion initiates at a specific location, it propagates from that point toward the
crevice mouth. Upon reaching the mouth, the corrosion spreads circumferentially along the gap. This phenomenon is driven by the IR voltage
drop, which causes the potential to decrease rapidly before reaching the initiation site, resulting in a higher potential at the
gap mouth than at the crevice base
